Caravan Grab Handle — Preserving the Product, Changing the Process
KEVMAR retained the familiar visible caravan grab-handle component while redeveloping the backing so the product could continue to be manufactured locally using a different process route.
The Problem
The original grab-handle manufacturing route was no longer available, but caravan owners and repairers still needed a replacement that retained the familiar appearance and function of the existing product.
The Constraint
The visible component needed to remain recognisable and fit the established application, while the backing had to be redesigned for a different manufacturing process without compromising fit or usability.
The Thinking
Instead of replacing the entire product concept, KEVMAR separated what needed to stay the same from what could change. The visible/front component was retained, while the backing was redesigned around a vacuum-forming process that could restore a practical local manufacturing route.
The Solution
A cross-process replacement solution using an injection-moulded visible/front component combined with a vacuum-formed backing.
How It Was Manufactured
Injection moulding for the visible/front component combined with vacuum forming for the redeveloped backing, followed by finishing and assembly for the final application.
The Result
The familiar product could continue to be supplied without recreating the original manufacturing route, demonstrating how KEVMAR can preserve function and appearance while changing the way a component is made.
